Kiwi Puree

Fruit purees and babies go hand in hand….they love the sweetness! I love them all but kiwi fruit is probably my favorite tropical fruit for baby food. It’s not too sweet and has a beautiful bright green color that babies are drawn to.

Not to mention all the health benefits. There’s tons of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, dietary fiber and Vitamin K and it’s easy on their digestive system. What’s not to love?

You may be wondering why I make my own baby food. For one, it’s so easy. Peel the fruit, blend with a liquid and you have homemade baby food.

Second, the price. The regular price of some packaged baby food is up to $4 for one little serving. For $4 worth of kiwi you can have fruit puree for days.

Lastly, the quality. There are no added sugars, artificial colors or additives when you make your own. For me, that’s enough of a reason.

Some of my other favorite purees are avocado puree, banana puree, raspberry puree and mango puree.

👩‍🍳 How to Make Kiwi Puree

  1. Peel the skin from the kiwi and discard.
  2. Add the green kiwi to a blender and blend until very smooth, adding a tablespoon of liquid if needed.
  3. Serve immediately or store in the fridge or freezer for later.

🪄 Tips and Tricks

  • Always use ripe kiwifruit. This will have the best flavor and texture. Unripe kiwi can be hard on babies bellies.

🗒 Substitutions and Variations

  • Use green kiwifruit or gold kiwi.
  • For older babies doing BLW, you can cut the kiwi into small pieces rather than blending it. They can use their fingers to grab the pieces.

👝 How to Store Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the puree using an ice cube tray. Once frozen, pop out the frozen pieces and store in an airtight freezer bag.

🤔 Common Questions

Is this gluten and dairy-free?

Yes! The only ingredient is kiwi and water (or breastmilk or formula).

Can I freeze the extra?

Absolutely! Use an ice cube tray to make little cubes of puree. Pull them out an hour or so before ready to serve.
