🪄 Tips and Tricks

  • Use day-old or leftover rice to save on time.

🗒 Substitutions

  • Use heavy cream in place of whole milk.
  • Add in more vegetables like cauliflower or carrots.

🗒 Best served with

  • For protein, add shredded chicken, ground chicken, or ground turkey.

👝 How to Store Leftovers

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days or in the freezer for up to three months. Thaw overnight to defrost.

When ready to reheat, I suggest sprinkling a little more cheesy love on top and bake for 15 minutes to bring it back to cheesy golden perfection. If tight on time (who isn’t!?) reheat in the microwave and no one will be the wiser.

🤔 Common Questions

What kind of rice should I use?

I suggest using day old white rice for this cheesy rice recipe because it’s had a chance to dry out. I prefer long-grain Jasmine rice but really any type of rice, including brown rice, will do. If making fresh uncooked rice, cook rice according to instructions and when adding to the rest of the ingredients, use a little less milk to prevent the rice from being too watery.

Is this recipe gluten free?

Yes this recipe is gluten free. If using breadcrumbs to top, make sure to use gluten free breadcrumbs.

Is this recipe dairy free?

This recipe can be made dairy free with dairy-free milk, dairy-free cheese and dairy-free sour cream.
